Teased: Lexus teases GS F-Sport and GS 450h

Filed under: Hybrid, Sedan, Lexus, Luxury

Lexus may have debuted the 2012 GS 350 as part of last week’s Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance festivities in California, but the automaker isn’t quite done with the rollout of its new rear-wheel-drive sedan. Seen here, Lexus has just released two teasers of two more models in the GS range: the sportier looking F Sport and hybrid-enhanced GS 450h.

Like the rest of Lexus’ F-Sport treatments, we don’t expect the GS F-Sport to be much more than a trim-and-tape job, though some suspension tuning may be in store for this model. It’s been long rumored that Lexus is preparing an honest-to-goodness GS F performance model, so the F Sport trim ought to be similar to what the automaker offers on its smaller IS sedan.

The GS 450h will likely use the same 3.5-liter V6 and electric motor setup that’s found in the current car, though some small massaging should hopefully improve fuel economy ever so slightly. We’ll have the full details on both cars later this year.Lexus teases GS F-Sport and GS 450h originally appeared on Autoblog on Fri, 26 Aug 2011 18:01:00 EST. Commenting on Engadget: a refresher

Hey there, it’s time for yet another refresher on the wonderful world of Engadget comments. After the break you’ll find our “human’s guide” to commenting, a sort of care and feeding guide for your Disqus account. If you’ve been here for awhile (hello, you) it should be mighty familiar but, since the flow of the commenters has hugely increased lately, we’re going to be more strict for awhile, deleting any comments we deem to be trollin’ or hatin’ and banning repeat offenders. We don’t like banning people, and we realize that haters do have to hate, but we love encouraging active and open debate down there. This is the best way for us to do that.

Read on for some guidelines to keep in mind.Continue reading Commenting on Engadget: a refresherCommenting on Engadget: a refresher originally appeared on Engadget on Fri, 26 Aug 2011 12:47:00 EDT. Please see our terms for use of feeds.Permalink   |   | Email this | Comments

Video: ?Eyeborg? Replaces Eye With Functioning Wireless Video Camera

You might remember Rob Spence, known online as the Eyeborg for his project to create a working bionic eye. We wrote about him before, and interviewed him a while back, but the project has advanced to the point where even a seasoned tech blogger is left speechless with amazement.

Spence has worked with a team of engineers to adapt an endoscope into a working in-socket video camera. It’s turned on by waving a magnet near it, at which point it will begin transmitting a wireless video signal to a handheld LCD viewer. Absolutely incredible. Watch the video inside.

The mobile app marketplace is exploding; there are now hundreds of thousands of apps on the iOS, Android and BlackBerry app markets. Heck, even Windows Phone 7 just crossed the 10,000 mark!

Jetbus is a retro-tastic physics game, with a bus

Once upon a time, there used to be a DOS game with a caveman and a human powered helicopter. The caveman would shuttle around the screen, madly trying to get customers to where they wanted to go.

Jetbus is not that game, but it’s obviously inspired by it. You’re driving a yellow school bus which has jets. I guess the jet engine takes quite a bit of space inside the bus, because you can only pick up one person at a time.

There are several doors on the screen, each with its own number. As you pick up a person, the status bar at the bottom of the screen shows you which number door you have to take them to.

You must fly your bus carefully, because if it gets bumped around too much, you lose. You earn money on each level, and can visit the garage to buy better jets and damping, power-ups, or even a whole new vehicle.

So while this game isn’t made as well as the original that inspired it, it does provide a few minutes of fun. And now, which one of you guys remembers the original and feels like pointing to it in the comments?Jetbus is a retro-tastic physics game, with a bus originally appeared on Download Squad on Tue, 15 Feb 2011 17:00:00 EST. FCC Fridays: August 26, 2011

We here at Engadget Mobile tend to spend a lot of way too much time poring over the latest FCC filings, be it on the net or directly on the ol’ Federal Communications Commission’s site. Since we couldn’t possibly (want to) cover all the stuff that goes down there, we’ve gathered up all the raw info you may want (but probably don’t need). Enjoy!

Update: It appears the FCC is doing some work on its website, which means some of the links may show up as an error for the next few days.

Fossil’s Meta Watch passes the FCC, your magic wristwatch fantasies are about to come true

Fossil’s Meta Watch has been beset with delays and defective parts but finally there’s good news — the watches have passed the FCC. The two models (analog and digital) can sync with your Android smartphone or tablet via a Texas Instruments CC2560 Bluetooth controller and are being sold as a “development platform” until enough apps are built to take advantage of the technology. T.I.’s website lists the watches as being available since August 22nd, although we’re not entirely sure what to make of that — it still looks like a pre-order situation to us. In any case, the devices should hopefully start reaching app developers pretty soon. Hey, how about using the internal gyroscopes to bring some genuine wrist-flapping action to Angry Birds?

Update: TI’s website is now listing the watch with a September 29th availability date.
